• How can I use the bike shelters?

  An access code is needed to get in and out of the bike shelters. Users need to submit an application to the individual locations to receive the code to the shelter at that location. 

  Submit your applications at the location of the shelter you are interested in using.

  Note that each person with a bike, using the shelter, needs to submit an application. In other words, each person in a family needs to submit an application. One application is not sufficient for one family. This is because the application asks for bike information that can help recover the bike in case of a theft.  

• How do the access codes work?

  Each shelter can be unlocked with an access code, that you will receive once you submit an application. 

  Note that all the shelters have a different access code, which are exclusive to that location. This means your access code will only work for THAT ONE LOCATION's shelters. 

  DO NOT SHARE your access code. If your friends or family would like to use the facility, they need to come in and fill out the application form as well so we know who’s using the lockers and how often. 

  Registering your bike (make/model/colour/serial code) with your application will also help with security and recovery, in the case of any unfortunate events.

  Also note that the code you use, will be the same code that as everyone else uses. 

• What if the code doesn't work?

  If the code doesn't work, talk to the City facility at the bike shelter location.

  For security reasons, the access code will be changed from time to time. 

  Notices will be posted in the facilities informing everyone of an upcoming code change and it will be the user's responsibility to check in with our offices to get the new code.

• Do I still need to lock up my bike?

  YES! Each facility can hold up to 10 bikes at one time. Anyone who has submitted an application and been given an access code can use these bike shelters so it is important that you still lock your bike with your own lock when it's in the shelter. 

   The shelters are meant to be an added layer of bike security, not the only security. 

• Is there a cost?

  No. These facilities are FREE.

• Why were these locations chosen?

  The bike shelters were funded through grants that required the shelters to be located on City property. We were not able to install the shelters on private properties (such as the Skeena Mall, Lazelle Mini Mall, etc.) because of these requirements. 

• How much did the bike shelters cost to install?

  The total cost of the bike shelters was $223,650. This project was funded:

  • 70% Active Living grant
  • 15% Terrace Community Forest grant
  • 15% Northern Capital Planning Grant
