It’s budget season, and we’re (almost!) ready for your feedback.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, December 1) at 12 noon, we will have our first public meeting—staff have been busy preparing recommendations to present to Council in order to get their direction on the proposed tax rates for 2021, operational budget changes, the use of the COVID-19 Safe Restart Grant Funds, the Northern Capital and Planning Grant funds, and more. It’s been a challenging year for everyone, and Council will have many issues to consider.

After Council has had a chance for discussion, we’ll post a budget overview online for YOU for your feedback. You’ll have until December 14 to review the budget overview and the agenda materials and tell us what you think and ask questions. Staff will gather this feedback and provide responses on our budget page and on social media.
Council will be given a copy of all public feedback for their consideration at the draft budget presentation, which will follow on December 16. At this meeting, staff will present the draft 2021–2025 Financial Plan, going through each item with Council for their consideration and discussion. Staff will use the time between then and early 2021 to finalize the plan, make tweaks as required, and prepare it for final approval.
Planning to watch tomorrow’s meeting? We encourage participating virtually by watching the Facebook Live video since we have limited space available in Council Chambers. Please note as well that the documents will not be displayed on the screen, so if you want to follow along, you can use the online agenda as reference. If you miss the livestream on Facebook, we’ll be posting the video on our Budget 2021 page.
