Campfires still allowed within city limits

Campfires still allowed within city limits

Feature
Fire Department

BC Wildfire Service enacted a Category 1 (campfire) open burning prohibition in the Northwest Fire Centre on Saturday, August 10. Based on local conditions, however, the Terrace Fire Department is continuing to allow campfires WITHIN CITY LIMITS.

Multiple factors are taken into consideration when assessing wildfire hazards and deciding whether or not to implement an open fire prohibition. This includes current and forecasted weather conditions, the availability of firefighting resources and the Buildup Index (BUI)

The Terrace Fire Department has assessed that a total open fire burning ban is not necessary in the City of Terrace at this time. However, we ask residents to please continue to be cautious when you have a small cooking fire, by ensuring:

  • You use clean, seasoned wood.
  • The fire is contained in an approved fire pit or ring.
  • The fire is always supervised.
  • The fire does not spread.
  • You have a water source nearby.

Check out BC Wildfire Service's simple brochure about how to have campfires safely.

Fire bans in place

Category 2 and 3 open fires remain prohibited, and the Category 1 open fire ban remain in effect OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS.
