Graffiti on Stop Signs

Statement from Mayor Carol Leclerc

Graffiti on Stop Signs

City Hall

The City was notified on Tuesday, November 3, about swastika graffiti on a stop sign at Davis and Munroe, and road crews replaced that sign that day. On Wednesday morning, a swastika was discovered on the same stop sign and was also immediately replaced by the roads crew. A swastika was also found Wednesday on a stop sign at Eby and Loen, and this has also been replaced, for a total of three stop sign replacements.

Mayor Carol Leclerc: “In the last several days there has also been vandalism on private property in this area that may or may not be related, but indicates a general theme of disregard of property and the costs associated with removing it—both in dollars and time. I have seen some of this vandalism first-hand, and I encourage those who see it to report it to our bylaw officers and the RCMP. It is very disappointing and disheartening that this type of behaviour is moving into our community, as global hateful behaviour seems to be on the rise. We must as a community show the perpetrators committing these acts that it will not be tolerated in Terrace."
