Historic Details

Two circular concrete structures, partially visible above ground, indicate the presence of war-era fuel tanks buried vertically below the surface. The reserve gas tanks have significant historic value for their association with military activities during World War II, their design, and their function for the storage of fuel during wartime. The large concrete tanks, typical of and similar to those in other locations, are of historic value as an example of structures built during wartime to store thousands of litres of fuel in case of other fuel supplies being destroyed or incapacitated by a Japanese attack on the west coast.

Today

The tanks, about 40 metres apart, are situated on the edge of a low escarpment behind the baseball field in Duncan K. Kerr Memorial Park and are partially covered with moss and vegetation.
