The Eby Staircase/Trails Capital Project reroutes two existing trails in the Howe Creek Trail corridor to provide better walking and cycling access to the Bench. 

• The Terrace Viewpoint Trail will be re-routed to reduce the trail grade to be suitable for cycling and walking, improve sustainability, and increase user safety. 
• The Pumphouse Trail will see the existing corridor improved through the removal of unsafe informal infrastructure, trail improvements to the existing trail surface, and trail stairs installed on steeper sections and around corners to improve walking access and improve trail sustainability.

This project has created a complete recreational and active transportation trail from the City of Terrace west to Kitsumkalum First Nation, linking the two communities. It also addressed safety issues along the popular route.

The Lakelse Gateway Connection Project more safely connects Terrace to Thornhill and beyond via a one-kilometre multi-use pathway on the north side of Lakelse Avenue, west of the Old Skeena Bridge.

During 2021, a slope stability assessment revealed the gravel shoulder on Lanfear Hill was no longer safe for pedestrians. A closure of the hill to all traffic allowed crews to complete a shoulder repair project and widen a significant pinch point on the hill. 

Other plans for improving multi-use transportation on the hill are in the works; stay tuned.
